Our client desired their new home in Mountain Brook to be in character with the surrounding houses built in the 1920s where steep slate roofs and masonry walls dominate the street. A simple, rustic English design was chosen using local sandstone and a variegated slate roof. The exterior walls have deep sills at the windows with rough sandstone lintels to thicken the appearance of the stone walls. The front of the house sits formally to the street, while the back yard is a walled garden with pool, poolhouse, and stone porch for dining and relaxing. Antique heart pine was reclaimed for the porch structure.
